Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to join our healthcare team in South Africa. The ideal candidate will have strong administrative skills and a solid understanding of medical terminology and office procedures. This role is vital to ensuring smooth front-desk operations, delivering exceptional patient service, and maintaining accurate medical records. The Medical Receptionist will manage patient interactions, schedule appointments, and support the clinic’s administrative functions.
Key Responsibilities

Greet patients and visitors in a friendly, professional manner.

Manage a multi-line phone system, handling incoming calls efficiently.

Schedule patient appointments and manage the clinic calendar.

Verify medical aid and insurance information, and assist with claims processing.

Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with data protection regulations.

Review documentation to ensure completeness and accuracy.

Process medical billing and coding using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, or others.

Follow up on outstanding accounts and assist with medical collections.

Assist with patient intake procedures, gathering information and updating care plans.

Provide clerical support, including filing, typing, and data entry using Microsoft Office.

Maintain a clean, welcoming, and organized front-desk area to improve patient experience.
Requirements

Previous experience as a Medical Receptionist or in a similar medical office or clinic role is preferred.

Familiarity with medical terminology, and CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10 coding systems.

Knowledge of EHR systems (e.g. Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks) is highly desirable.

Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Excellent phone etiquette and customer-service skills, enabling effective communication with patients and healthcare professionals.

Ability to handle sensitive patient information discreetly, in line with data privacy regulations.
