The Artscape Theatre Centre, in partnership with the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, has opened applications for the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) Internship Programme 2026.

This programme provides young creatives and technical enthusiasts with hands-on experience working behind the scenes in one of South Africa’s leading performing arts venues.

📌 Programme Overview

💰 Stipend

The stipend is paid daily depending on your qualification level:

• 🎓 Graduate (3-year qualification): R243 per day

• 📘 Matric (Grade 12): R162 per day

🎬 Available Internship Positions

📢 Marketing Administrator (Graduate)

• Digital marketing and social media management

• Graphic design and content creation

• Use of tools such as Adobe Creative Suite

💡 Lighting Intern

• Setup and maintenance of theatre lighting systems

• Support lighting engineers during live productions

🔊 Sound Intern

• Audio engineering support

• Microphone setup and soundboard operation

🎭 Stage Management Intern (2 Posts)

• Assist with rehearsals and stage coordination

• Manage props and backstage activities during productions

✅ Minimum Requirements

Applicants must:

✔ Be South African citizens
✔ Be 18 – 35 years old
✔ Reside in the Western Cape
✔ Have Grade 12 (technical roles) or a Diploma/Degree (marketing role)
✔ Be able to communicate in two languages commonly used in the province (English, Afrikaans, or IsiXhosa)
✔ Have a clear criminal record
✔ Have a passion for performing arts or theatre production

🧾 Key Responsibilities

• Assist professionals during live theatre productions

• Support lighting, sound, and stage setup

• Create and manage digital marketing content (marketing role)

• Follow health and safety procedures backstage

• Submit monthly activity reports

📌 Interns may need to work evenings and weekends due to theatre performance schedules.
