The NMISA is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented individual to join its Biomedical Science unit as an intern under the Dosimetry Standards section. This role offers hands-on experience in one of the most critical areas of metrology, specifically focusing on the development, maintenance, and dissemination of dosimetry measurement standards. Position Overview:

As a dosimetry intern, you will receive extensive training and guidance in the field of radiation measurement standards, helping to enhance your professional skills and competencies. Key Responsibilities:

  • Training & Development: You will undergo comprehensive training within the Biomedical Science unit’s Dosimetry Standards section. This will focus on creating and maintaining accurate measurement standards, with direct involvement in procedures that support the development of radiation measurement protocols.
  • Dosimetry Audits: You will assist in performing dosimetry audits, ensuring compliance with industry standards. This role includes analyzing equipment, reviewing results, and making recommendations for improvements.
  • Measurement Standards: As an intern, you will be involved in generating, validating, and reviewing procedures for dosimetric measurements. You will contribute to maintaining meticulous records of all equipment and measurements conducted, ensuring the data is accurately documented and can be used for scientific and regulatory purposes.
  • Administrative Support: The intern will assist with the procurement of laboratory consumables and help maintain the lab’s equipment and instruments. Timely acquisition of materials required for various tasks will also fall within your duties.
  • Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Responsibilities: In alignment with NMISA’s EHS objectives, you will assist with ensuring that the laboratory operates within safety and environmental guidelines, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Metrology Skills Transfer: This internship will provide opportunities for professional growth through skills development activities, such as attending specialized courses, conferences, and presenting your findings on assigned projects.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Academic Qualification: A BSc Hons in Physics or a related qualification is essential. Candidates must possess a strong academic foundation to excel in the internship’s technical aspects.
  • Knowledge of Radiation Protection: A fundamental understanding of radiation protection and radiation science is a prerequisite for this position, ensuring you can contribute meaningfully to the tasks at hand.
  • Software Proficiency: A basic understanding of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required to manage data, create reports, and communicate effectively with team members.
  • Mathematical & Statistical Knowledge: A solid grasp of mathematical and statistical principles is necessary to perform data analysis, interpret results, and contribute to the preparation of reports.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills are vital for writing detailed reports and conveying findings effectively.
